Some of the really early drawings of RV Investigator had me a little puzzled.

The Draft General Arrangement has dots on the deck areas, and I was wondering what they were for. 

Now it’s all making sense!

The dots represent a system of tie down sockets, which allow for things to be secured to the ship. In these photos you can see tie down sockets being put in place.
