Folks, it’s that time of year where you no longer have to look up to see how beautiful the sky is, because we’re bringing the best of the best astronomy photography directly to you!

Each year thousands of talented photographers send their best astronomical images in to be judged by renowned astrophotographer Dr David Malin. This year there was stiff competition with so many outstanding entries! But we’ll linger no longer, here are your 2017 CWAS David Malin Award winners:

You can check out all the winners and entrants here.

This year’s permanent exhibition will be on show at our Parkes Observatory’s Visitor’s Centre for one year from 16 July 2017. A second touring exhibition, organised by the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, will travel to selected venues, beginning with Sydney Observatory on 10 August 2017.

The David Malin Awards are run by the Central West Astronomical Society (where our Parkes radio telscope aka ‘The Dish’ is located). The awards are a part of the annual AstroFest and are supported in 2017 by CSIRO, Canon Australia, Parkes Shire Council and Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum.

Come and visit us at Parkes! The Observatory Visitors Centre is free and open daily from 8.30am to 4.15pm.
