Eastern China pinpointed as source of rogue ozone-depleting emissions

Research published by an international team today in Nature used a global network of monitoring stations to pinpoint the source of the rogue emissions. According to these data, 40-60% of the increase in emissions seen since 2013 is due to possibly illegal industrial activity in the Chinese provinces of Shandong and Hebei.

Good things come in small packages, satellites included

CubeSats - aka nanosatellites herald a new approach to Earth observation and remote sensing work for Australia. For their size, they punch well above their weight.

New super-powered satellite blasts off

With superpowers including night vision and the ability to see through clouds, NovaSAR-1 has just blasted into orbit around Earth. Australian researchers will soon benefit from this new ‘eye in the sky’.
