Australia’s continental margin – Brisbane to Byron Bay fly over
Using the sonar systems on the RV Southern Surveyor, we've mapped the 'continental margin' between Brisbane and Byron to research landslides and tsunamis.
Rich and poor: which areas of Australia are most unequal?
Our researchers tracked income inequality across the country and found that the most unequal jurisdiction is New South Wales followed by the Northern Territory - while Tasmania showed the smallest gap between the rich and the poor.
Investigator mapping the submerged Huon reserve
The RV Investigator headed south of Tasmania to test new equipment for modelling the Huon submerged mountains, home to a range of fish, coral, squid and crabs.
What does our ocean modeling tell us about the fate of flight MH370?
With the discovery of the 777 flaperon on La Réunion thought to belong to MH370, we have again been called on for our expert ocean modelling advice. And it appears our original predictions may have been on the money
A new Atlantis
Wouldn’t it be good if there were a spare ecosystem we could try things out on before making decisions? That's why we built Atlantis, a marine ecosystem modelling tool for testing out resource and planning decisions.
This scanner has a few bugs
The InsectScan 3D uses standard components and costs less than $8000 to create digital 3D models - and we can print them in 3D, too.
Bright Spark saves lives: finding order in the chaos of bushfires
Australians are all-too-familiar with the tragedy that a bushfire can cause - the destruction of homes and the loss of lives. We've been studying bushfire behaviour for many decades and have developed a piece of software that simulates fire spread - Spark.
Fishing for answers to the AFL’s tanking issue
We're using the modelling techniques, normally reserved for fisheries, to understand the dynamics of sporting leagues like the AFL.

Modelling Australia’s oceans
The Atlantis modelling tool was rated the best for considering alternative potential futures for fisheries and marine ecosystems by the UN in 2007.
